Have a Project? Get started

Why is it that we always finish ANY task seconds before its deadline?

Since my youth, I have heard and read about this state of approach in mostly anyone who has ever been tasked with doing a project.

However, I have never been like that.

I enjoy my free time so I developed an habit of getting rid of any task/assignment that may get in the way of that.

So the moment I get a project I begin working on it and in doing this I get to have more time to polish said project(s). I would do it and leave it to sit while I go refresh (eat, sleep, fitness training, etc) and come back later or another day and would have a wider perspective on it and be able to improve it.

I find that whenever I step away from something I'm mentally able to navigate and explore solutions so that when I sit back at my workstation I have a solid intention. Likewise, I tend to keep a trusty dotgrid (or a note app) with me that I would also jot down my ideas so as to keep up with the Kardashians... I mean, keep my focus on point.

I am a perfectionist, tho I'd rather keep this fact to myself; in it that I am never satisfied with my own  work and will always find new ways to improve on it. But I try not to get emotionally caught up in that I can't bare to part with it when it's time has run it's course. I would just move on to creating something new.

It's not my fault.

The world changes while you sleep and so does (my) mind's interpretation of things... that is if you are a constant learner, like myself.

So make it easy on yourself. Stiffen that upper lip. Straighten up your back, stretch, yawn, roll tide and get to it.

Just remember to breathe.

I'd just like to clear things up...

DESIGN IS ART

From your hair follicle down to your toe nail, it's all purpose by design.

I read a marketing article the other day that got me thinking... is Design not not art?

or did Ned Nott not shot Shott?

The title of article read "DESIGN IS NOT ART"

Wait... Wut?

Before I drew any conclusion I read and reread it. And While I may understand the writer's POV, I had to disagree with the title, and some stuff that was said within, which I won't mention here but you'll figure it out as you read along.

While the writer tried to convey their intent to solve their clients' demands (which was the gist of the article) some heavy shade was thrown at the art community, which had me like ... OK.

But the counterpoint I would like to make to that article is that DESIGN IS indeed ART.

Client's seek out creative visionaries who are third-eyed and crafty to conceptualize and visualize their products.

The core of design, however, is functionality. Which is the point of it all.

As a designer, UI/UX... Thundercat... Ninja Turtle... whatever you wanna call yourselves. A client will say to you, this is what I want (end goal), it is now up to you, He-Man, to figure out the how's and the why's and create and map the journey that get's the users from point A to the end objective.

Sometimes along the path you may question your questionings, double-checking your reasons, calling up the client and saying "What was your thought-process as to why you would like to have this?" and they may be very clear as to why, because they did their homework ...or they might say "I had seen it in this other thingy and I liked it so I want it in my thingy too", and if you're still with that client then kudos to you. Then you're like, "I see, but that does not fit in with your product and better yet, I've figured out something that will bring you value and is more suitable for your users."

"Oh... that's really cool what you did there, thank you!", they may reply.

So where do we go from here?

I may be alone in this and that's OK because I'm not known to have anyone else do my thinking for me.

The doors wide open if you'd like to discuss. 'Till then I'll just walk around with a manly strut because... DESIGN IS ART!

Design responsibly.
